That's your IAC (Idle Air Control) valve. It has a plunger on the inside that moves in and out to control the idle speed. Hope that helps! Jim

Regulates the idle rpm. Iac can get dirty and plugged. Also I've come across iac valve where the plunger cracks and reacts like a vacuum leak. Most of the time when the plunger cracks it makes trumpet like sound coming from intake tube. Mainly Ford's have this issue.
