Shifter moves but doesn't shift into gear

The shift cable is coming disconnected somewhere, either in the steering column or where it attaches to the transmission.

Sounds like mine - 2016 Escape. Tonight I got home, backed up the drive and put it into park (I thought), turned it off, and took my foot off the brake and it started rolling down the drive. Was able to put the emergency brake on and get the key out, but it won't start and says it's in S gear. Curious what the resolution to yours was. TIA
