Ford Escape shifter won't go into park

Asked by MDX_11187 Feb 09, 2017 at 02:04 PM about the 2005 Ford Escape XLT AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I recently bought a used 2005 escape a
few weeks ago and I've been having
problems with the shifter. So sometimes it
won't shift into park. It doesn't click in. But
if you wait a minute it will click in and then
you can take the key out of the ignition.
The shifter is in the console. And there is a
button you press to move the knob back
and forth, when it is having this problem
you also don't have to press the button to
va able to move the shifter knob like you
should. It just goes back and forth without
pressing the button

There is a shift inter lock at the shifter that sounds like is giving you grief. Should have someone take a look at this.
