I have a 2007 Escape and the 4WD light flashes on and off and the check engine light comes on any ideas what might be the problem

You will need to bring the car to a local auto part store who can check the codes for free. As far as the 4WD light flashing, try to tell how many consecutive flashing to do see. For example: 8 consecutive flashing = speed spensor...
