Reliability

Question type: Shopping & Pricing
I was looking at a 1996 Chevy Camaro RS Convertible for sale from a private owner who I had not previously met. It has 135k miles on the clock. I can afford the price, but I am wondering if the car will last for another four years at least without any major problems. During the test drive, I did not notice any weird noises, and the car felt very strong and capable. I know American cars have a bad rap for reliability, but Edmunds said the car had along the lines of a 9.4/10 customer rating. Will this car last?

first that is a lot of miles for any car dont expect 4 years out of it if your gonna drive it everyday. second American cars are just as good and bad as everything else on the market (in my opinion), third the camaros ratings and owner satisfaction are based more on performance than reliability and last i wouldnt buy private at that mileage unless you know the person really well
Thank you for your reply. I am a student, and I'm looking for a fun car (preferably a convertible) which will last me until the end of college. I have about $3000-4000 saved up. What would you recommend?
the chevy 350 small block if treated will last upwards of 250,000 my suburban has the same engine with some modifications and it has 250,000 on it and is still running strong
expect to at least replace the ignition system at some point. if i remember right, this year model has opti-spark ignition and it sits right behind the water pump on the front of the motor. it tends to fill up with water with ease. like all cars, it will break.
