Asked by Knuckleball54 Nov 15, 2016 at 05:12 AM about the 1996 Buick Roadmaster Limited Sedan RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1996 Buick Roadmaster with a 5.7 LT1 that
sputters while driving on the interstate when
accelerating and cruising. Have heard of coil pack
replacement and EVAP problem. Thank you.

I own 3 roadmaster wagons and do all the work on them myself. Are you getting any engine codes like multiple spark misfire? If so what i have learned when this starts happening is to first check the condition of the spark plug wires and replace those first if needed. the second thing would be the distributor. On an LT1 this is quite a job because it requires removing the water pump and everything attached to it. You only have one coil like an old school conventional system. The coil would quit and the car would not run at all. But old broken down plug wires would cause this sputtering as well as the distributor breaking down on the inside. The wires are easier to try first and less money/work. Hope this helps you out Good luck Dan
