You can ask the dealership to provide proof of their license. Every dealership should be able to easily provide a license number and a sales tax certificate. If they can't provide those bits of information then they are not a legitimate dealership or broker.
First, "BUYER BEWARE". Now, you say dealership... Jaguar dealer? or just a used car dealer? Call BBB and see what they have to report. They could make up tax numbers to send you. Call police dept and see if they are of any service. Google them and see what other people are saying about them.

Ask for the DMV license, DMV gave it to all dealers and Broker. You can have a vehicle inspection company go to their location and inspect the car. While the inspector is there you can call him and ask any question about the dealer ,location and have them take pictures and sent it to you with the report. If you have the car checked at the dealer, you can only verify the condition of the car .
