power rear view mirrows

Asked by Sierra1909 Apr 26, 2014 at 09:49 AM about the 2001 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE Extended Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Exterior rear view mirrors can no longer be adjusted by the switch. Fuse checks okay.
Any suggestions on troubleshooting electrical?

If both stopped working, it is unlikeky that it is a door switch, as both failing at the same time would be strange- see if you can pull one of the switches out without taking the door panel off- check to see if it has power going to it with a test light- if no power, trace backward on a wiring diagram to see where the power is interrupted- maybe they both operate off the same relay? just guessin' without a wiring diagram- if there is power at the switch, check to see that it's going out when you push the button- hopefully the motors aren't bad-

Many thanks for the reply. I'm not a troubleshooter, just a nuts and bolts replacer (if that's a word) who really appreciates your insight. It appeared the wiring was okay from an ohms meter check (orange wire to black wire good), which led me to believe the switch was bad. I'll recheck based on your recommendation. Again, thanks for the prompt reply and help.
