How can you tell if your drive shaft or axles have or are going out?

usually the axles will make a whirring sound. They have bearing inside that wear down and go out after time. The differential will have to be pulled to look at the axles. It is best to have a shop do it.

If the U joints are going bad there will be some major vibration. If you can get under the car and wiggle the drive shaft you can tell if the U joints are going bad.

You can also check by having someone hold foot on brake and but vehicle in drive the reverse and notice how much drive shaft moves or any noise when going from drive to reverse and from reverse to drive.
