How do i go about switching a chip key back to a standard key?
Okay so we had the vehicle sitting for a few months after purchasing and
lost the only key we had to it. Now this vehicle typically has a standard key
but the previous owner had switched it over to a chip key. We had went to
Chevrolet and they gave us a standard key that fit the truck... which
obviously did not work. The battery is fully charged and the truck is
functional. We're on a very tight budget and trying to figure out if there is a
way for us to physically change everything out ourselves, well if that is the
cheaper choice. Now if we replace the ignition cylinder can we just have a
new key remade or will we have to replace the whole ignition switch and
have to rewire the vehicle? We need help, we're not mechanically savvy
but we're willing to learn a bit. Help us!!
