sepatine belt was sucked into crank, after battery light went on engin justc shut down.

I'm still removing belt and it looks like my
harmonic balencer is done, why did the
engine just quit running? I'm removing the
pulley, I think more belt is still jammed in
housing.
Belt could have jammed the engine and stopped it.
So just keep peeling it out and I'm good or is there a chance that it cooked engine, I didn't hear any snap crackle or pops when it quit.
Keep removing the belt being careful as possible. Determin why the belt came off. Did the belt break, was the belt tensioner bad, was the belter idler bad, did the harmonic balancer come apart or did one of the accessories lock up (alternator, water pump, A/C compressor or P/S/ Pump). It is possible that the crankshaft seal was damaged depending how far the belt got past the balancer. When you get the remains of the belt out of the engine you can safely briefly start the engine to see if it runs. Don't run it very long, 30 seconds or less, without the belt. If it starts watch for oil or coolant leaks. Then replace the faulty parts and you should be good to go.

Just a follow up, while pulling harmonic balancer the timing gear came off, it's attached some how and there wasn't much of the serpentine belt left in the hub. I'm pretty sure the timing jumped at speed. I'm sure Kia built this car as test to my patience. If you know of someone looking for a optima with less than 100k, but needs eng lmk..
