How to know if the water-pump is going bad?

Asked by Kimberley Jul 05, 2016 at 10:14 PM about the 2006 Kia Sorento LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The motor was over-reving for no reason, checked the water and it was bone dry, filled it back up with water, run it for a few mins and checked again and again no water. Still over-reving. No leak on the ground, So where is the water going?

Not good, the engine can "burn" water or lose water through the cylinder chambers.(head gaskets-cracked heads etc.) Have it checked by real tech, call around before doing anything and ask about diagnostic fees $100 should locate any issue and Inform you EXACTLY what needs to be replaced or serviced. Double check the vehicle is NOT leaking directly onto the ground.
