Problems after timing belt replacement

Asked by big33dad Nov 23, 2015 at 07:14 AM about the 2006 Kia Spectra EX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I replaced the timing belt, water pump, top
O2 sensor, spark plugs, valve cover gasket
and front motor mount. I drove the car and
it's noticeably louder, but what's really
concerning is that after driving it a few days,
oil has started coming from the back of the
engine somewhere. It's running over the top
of the transmission then down. Any help
would be appreciated.

The repairs you did has nothing to do with the problem you have now. It looks like you have a main rear seal that is no good and is leaking...

That just seems awfully coincidental, but I'll check it tonight. I was thinking that I might have the timing off by a few degrees. If this was the case, would that cause any damage?

I suspect that the oil is coming from something you did like the valve cover gasket. Now on the timing, does the car run good, why do you think the timing is off other than the marks not being lined up wright? I could tell you if it is an interference engine or not, need to know what it is, (size motor) but if you are driving it, and running fine, there would be no damage.
