What would cause it not to start after the engine dies?

Okay so i was driving home from work and my pt was fine
one second and then the next the car started sputtering
and then the engine just shut off and ive tryed fixing it my
self but i cabt figured out whats wrong and it still wont
start like it wants to turn over but it wont. So is there
anything that i need to check because it has no check
engine light.
