Why does my car have no power while driving?

Asked by McLoud Aug 27, 2014 at 11:07 AM about the 1993 Saturn S-Series 4 Dr SL1 Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I replaced my piston rings, all gaskets including the intake manifold gasket, fixed all
vaccum leaks, new plugs and wires, new coolant sensor and wire plug, new pcv
valve, coolant flush and got the air bubbles out,new egr valve, map sensor, checked all
relays and basically overhauled the whole engine. The problem was the same even
before doing everything to it. It has some power when I initially take off driving but soon
cuts out and starts kind of bogging. I am at a loss as to what the problem is and im
trying to avoid taking it to a mechanic and having a diagnostics test done as I have
stuck so much money it it already

Did you new put 02 sensors in? Could be stuck in open loop and when warmed up runs too rich.

What's the exhaust back pressure? And yea I was thinking the o2 sensor to but ive been hesitant to buy one since it's 50 some odd bucks and I would be taking a chance that it is the problem. Doesn't autozone test o2 sensors for free?

Yes an 02 sensor can be tested. You need a good scanner or a multimeter... ...http://www.ehow.com/how_5193043_test-sensor.html... ..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YL6xkOZxHZ0 .....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QM2jO0_Cah0 ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uqmYkl7t0c

And no Auto zone will not test it. And they are not returnable

pull the primary o2 sensor out of the manifold. If the car runs better, its your cat. Post any trouble codes youre throwing.

try to check the return system the fuel system..clean the fuel line..last option is trasmition the disc ..replace

I have a Saturn SL one 1993 five-speed I push on the pedal and when it gets to 5000 RPMs it starts spitting what causes the problemI put a new fuel filter fuel pump plugs wires ignition coil module Knock sensor I think it’s the throttle body position sensor I don’t think it’s getting the right fuel mixture it does smell pretty rich I was going to change the O2 sensor to but the car doesn’t want to run properly it’s having lack of power and spitting like crazy
