when it is cool it will start up right away then when it get worm when you go to start it you have to push the gas paddle to start it up

This is a common issue with these cars. If you notice, some of the other forum members will only answer the very basic questions that are cross connected to all cars, oil, battery, light bulb questions. They lack actual mechanical hands on skills, and most likely have never owned or worked on a Saturn. But I digress. This venting issue is a common problem with most Saturn SL1's and SL2's from 1996-2002. When the fuel tank venting system fails or doesn't adequately vent or allow the decompression of built up evaporation in the tank or fuel lines, will throw a general SES (Service Engine Soon) Evap code. Sometimes a simple fix is the gas cap, but in the even where you are having trouble during "warm starts" it is because there is push back from pressure in the gas tank causing the injectors to misfire, or have pockets of evaporated fuel that cannot be ignited during a crank fire. Because you have to "manually prime" the injectors via the throttle by pushing the gas pedal leads me to believe this is the issue with your particular Saturn. Is the SES light on? If so run it by an AutoZone or Local Auto Parts store. Most will read the code for free, and this is a very common issue with Saturn's of your model and year. It is not a difficult fix however, it can cause the car to fail emissions testing so if thats something that your state, county, or city requires I would fix it sooner rather than later. If you need help on the steps, it is time consuming (including siphoning, and dropping the tank) however, like I said a pretty easy job. Best of luck and I hope this helps!
