Car Noise

I have a 1999 SATURN SC1, I have a knocking
sound in my engine,  You only hear it when you first
start the car,  and when your accelerating up to the
speed your going,  when you get to the speed your
gonna go,  you no longer hear it. I had a mechanic
look at it and he said it sounded like a loose lifter,  
and it was, and he tightened it, but that did not
resolve the issue.  Any advice  on what it could be
would be GREATLY APPRECIATED
