Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Have a 01 Saturn SL2, started having
a problem about a month ago, out of
the blue the car wouldn't start. Hit
the fuel filter and it started but not
before making this horrific sound
under the hood(that it's still making
upon starting) and me having to stay
on the gas pedal while it expels white
smoke from the tail pipe. Got a tune
up, replaced the fuel filter same
problem and it now seems as if it
wants to die or will die when the car
is idle(upon initial take off) or even at
a stop light. Got a new fuel pump
and a new idle air control valve and
I'm still having the same problem! Oh
and did I mention the car will not
start right back up after short trips.
The car literally has to sit for an hour
or longer before it will start! Please
help!!!

Coolant level is good, recently had a water pump, thermostat and air compressor done as well

Try replacing the Crankshaft Timing Sensor. Worked for me after spending a small fortune replacing everything else.
