Car won't start
Asked by Elgae Oct 19, 2017 at 07:46 PM about the 2001 Saturn S-Series 4 Dr SL2 Sedan
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I've put in a new battery cause my old one
died. The car has full power now. I had left
it for 2-3 weeks dead with half a tank of
gas. I just put 5L in cause it says it's
empty. When I know it's not. I never had
this problem before the car died. But it
sounds like no fuel is being put into the car
when I turn the key

Check all your fuses under dash & hood.
Thank you for that I didn't think about that. But what should I be looking for in regards to the fuses. Is it easy to tell if there's something wrong with it looking at them. I don't really know cars very well unfortunately

A blown fuse (may or may not) may be part of the issue but if it is the fuse will need to be pulled out and see if you can see the inner metal broken.

Did the fuel gauge work and stop working the same time fuel pump stopped working?
Our battery died my fuel everything worked fine before the battery died. As soon as we got a new battery. The check engine light is on, the service engine light is on. The gas gauge doesn't move and it says it's completely empty even after putting gas in it
Do to the lack of light right now we will be checking it out tomorrow. And I will update wether or not it works. Thank you so much for your help. It's very appropriate.

Check your computer fuse, BCM or ECM or ECU or PCM which ever it is I just call it the computer module. The Next the connection to fuel tank pump needs checked, the connector may get corroded or have bad wires there to or on top of tank, and while there check for power to pump connector. If it continues to blow the fuse you will need to locate the short source which could be anywhere including sensors and other electrical parts, that is on that fuse too, if codes are set that may help to locate the short source.

Welcome and I will check back 2marrow.
We just checked the fuse box and and the pcm fuse was blown. We are now just waiting to get fuses to replace it and try it out
We got the fuse replaced and it started right away. With more power then I've ever seen my car have. Now the only problem is my radio is now not working
We just checked the fuse for the radio and it's blown too. So an easy fix. Thank you so much for your help. It means more to me than you know.

The radio if after-market may be hooked up wrong or be bad either way if it blows again I would look at radio first. Then if its fine check anything else on that fuse circuit, may need a wiring diagram which should be one on the auto-zone website.

And also if it blows that fuse again the pump/fuel sender wire harness connection at fuel tank needs inspected for corrosion.
I have a 2001 saturn S II model. i beleive the head gasket is going back, temperature rises mid point then fan cools her down. I have white smoke coming from tail pipe. I recently experienced car not starting and replaced starter and changed spark plugs. However, car is straining to turn over. Alternator is good, after testing. could it be the battery?
