Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a Saturn 2002 Sc1 with an automatic transmission. When switching
gears into reverse my engine picks up rmps and doesnt move before like
bumping and then going backwards. Then when I start to speed up (going
foward) it will often jerk once really hard. Sometimes when I am just driving I
will hear a soft whining type sound. I think the transmission is going out but
Im not sure, and my cars loud it makes a lot of noise

Making a lot of noise? Do you have an exhaust leak? It is hard to say what the noise is on the internet. Have a mechanic check the car out for you, maybe it might be something simple. No need to think the transmission needs replacing. Maybe low on fluid?

My step dad looked at it and thinks its the clutch pad. Whatever that means (I dont know much about cars). If it is what should I do with that information
