Engine knock

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2002 Saturn SL2 that has an engine knock. It has
new oil and a new oil filter. The lifters are also fairly new. I
went to check my spark plugs today and noticed that there
was oil all over my plugs. I know for abfact it is NOT a
blown head gasket. I really don't know what to do on this.
Any helpful answer would be greatly appreciated.

Was the oil mainly on the threads of the spark plugs and do are your spark plugs down thru the valve cover? If yes to both the oil is due to leaking valve cover gasket. The knock is it on the top end of motor or does it sound down low in engine.

Probably your valve cover gasket leaking. Post up a video of the "knock". Many times its an angry lifter, however with the hydraulic lash adjusters youve got in the '02, Im more inclined to think that the knock is in the bottom end.

i believe its down in the main crank arm under the heads them selves. ive had the same issues before and pulled off the heads and seen something i did not like.
