200,000 miles plus with proper maintenance. Read about the Duratec 30 engine at the link...http://www.tomorrowstechnician.com/engine-series-a-decade- of-the-duratec-30/
A car motor should last about 10 year, you can more from it, if you stay on top of all the maintenance and you change the oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles.

I have a 2008 Mercury Mariner Premier. . engine went out at 179,000 miles. Is it worth it to put a new engine in it? knh45@yahoo.com...thanks

Kiddo82829 Mine is at 160000 and the transmission is gone. I’m trying to decide the same thing. If I get a new trans then will the engine go out next? Maybe you should consider the same thing. If you get new engine the trans might go? It’s a tough decision!! Have you made yours yet?
Not sure what either of you decided (2 yrs later), but I have a 2006 with 250k miles, put a rebuilt tranny in at 100k and it still runs and looks GREAT!
I have a 2008 with 3.0l it has 332,000 just put a transmission in it the 2-4 band broke and I didn’t have time to do it myself full synthetic oil and transmission fluid is the life of this vehicle

2005 Mercury Mariner, bought it new off dealer floor. 312K engine still start right up no issues. Torque converter went out at 299K. Changed Alternator at about 120K and again at about 275K. Radiator changed at about 200K. It been a great vehicle over all.
