2007 Pontiac Torrent Transmission Slipping

I recently purchased a 2007 Pontiac Torrent that started acting like something
was loose in the front suspension. A garage ran a carfax and no maintenance
history was found. When I took it to a second garage I was told and shown
the transmission is leaking but I didn't notice if it was brown or black on his
finger. I'm pretty certain the issue is a slipping transmission. If I have the fluid
changed and leak repaired will it damage the transmission? If not, what
recommendations do you have on this matter?

I have a 2007 Torrent and had to replace the transmission in May 2017. Was slipping pretty badly between 1st and 2nd. Found out from my mechanic that the trans fluid had never been changed. They recommended NOT changing it until the transmission was replaced (about 6 months later) or it might "disturb" something and cause it to fail faster.
