2007 pontiac torrent

Asked by Tom Apr 13, 2017 at 06:38 PM about the 2007 Pontiac Torrent Sport AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

This thing takes up to an hour turning the key on and off before I hear the
fuel pump energize, then it starts. Today, the security light came on. It stalls
going down the road..yada yada. Does anyone know anything about the
security system GM installed on the Torrent? Its a beautiful, perfect
condition SUV for her age but my fuse is growing short. I did the re-learn 6
times now with no luck and no change in the starting. Once it starts, it purrs
like a kitten, its just getting it to start. All suggestions are appreciated.

Maybe you need a new fuel pump but I would also suspect the ignition switch and the Passlock system ----- http://ricksfreeautorepairadvice.com/passlock-reset-procedure/

I should clarify what I meant by not starting until the pump energizes....I turn the key and the starter does not engage. I get nothing but the dash board instruments coming on. Right before it stalls out while driving the temperature gauge goes from normal range to 5 or 6 o'clock, well past blow the engine up temp if you don't stop. Do I have gremlins or is this the dreaded, "Pontiac curse?"

Maybe you have multiple problems. Clearly you need to check out the cooling system.

My cooling system was checked and its in perfect condition. II am not overheating. The starter was checked and is also in perfect running condition. This is electrical troubles in nature, GM's security system. My mileage is at 127k, the recorded failure mileage for these troubles to start. I can't find a mechanic up here...deep woods of Maine...that knows his crackers from crayons on the Pontiac Torrent. Yes, Mainers do dip their crayons in butter for added taste in case you are wondering. I did just order a new ECM/PCM and the fuel pump minutes ago thanks to suggestions from you all. I am trying to understand the passlock system with help from the nice people answering my question.

You said the car was over heating, now you say it is not. If the cooling system is working properly the car would not overheat. Verify that the coolant temperature sensor is working properly.

No sir, I said the temp gauge goes from normal to the 5 or 6 o'clock position. It was a poor reference to an electrical problem I notice just before it stalls going down the road. My apologies on my wording, but it happens every time just before it stalls.

Too late to answer but it's your ground. Ignition switch grounds at the back on the passengers side inside the car. That ground Sir, is a b1**h. Replace it and you'll be good to go

Its currently at the dealers service dept. I'm at $2800.00 with no guarantee it will be fixed. I will tell them to find this ground and replace it, tyvm.

Just an fyi guys...after 3 years of headaches with this 07 Torrent, the dealer changed out the BCM, complete fuse block in the engine bay and a starter. It runs like factory fresh now. I appreciate all that took the time to help. God Bless.
