Loud sound coming from underneath my hood

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car is making this extremely loud bad sound
upon starting up only after sitting overnight for over
6 hours. Then when I go to start it up first thing in
the morning, this loud sound coming from the front
where the engine and belt and pulleys are make
this loud horrible sound that goes away within 20
sec and wan t do it again until the next morning. I'm
hoping its a belt or pulley issue and not an engine
issue, any suggestions or help? Will the check
engine light come on if there was actually an engine
issue rather than belt or pulley issue?
Thanks

If it's a loud squealing or screeching sound then it's going to be one of the belt driven accessories like the alternator or air conditioning compressor being stuck. The belt is moving along the pulley but the pulley isn't turning. Hope that helps! Jim
