5.7 to 6.1 swap, engine stalls out

Asked by camkaiwill0306 Feb 24, 2019 at 09:28 PM about the 2007 Dodge Magnum R/T RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2007 dodge magnum 5.7 that has a blown head gasket, i had a 2008 dodge charger srt8 motor/ tranny that i pulled from a car of mine that got totaled out in an accident. i put the SRT8 motor into the magnum. When i got the car out the shop, the car stalls at stop lights/signs.  i went to a performance shop that told me that i needed to install the SRT8 tranmission and get a mopar TCM.  I ended up installing the SRT8 tranny and after about a month of driving the tranny went out and had to re-install the original 5.7 tranny back in.  I am sitll having the same issue where the car stalls out at stop signs/ lights.  The same performance shop still says that i need to change the TCM, ive tried to look at forums and cant find one that is specific to whats going on with my magnum.  PLEASE HELLLLPPP!!!

It might need an ECM or TCM update. The various components also need to be able to talk to each other. You might need to take it to a dealership to get them to program the new new combination. As far as the stalling issue, I too have that problem. Next I’ll get the dealership to replace the gas tank, which is free for life, per NHTSA bulletin. I’ve tried just about everything else.
