Engine light Mazda 6

Asked by windsor_2018 Jan 20, 2017 at 12:02 PM about the 2007 Mazda MAZDA6 i Sport - Sport

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Engine light was on when I started my car
yesterday evening. I recall a few days back my car
jerked two separate times but has never done so
again. I had my oil changed a day or two after. The
weather was very cold at the time the car jerked
and when I had my last oils change. My mileage is
172K.  Already checked my gas cap as I'm aware
this can make the check engine light come on. I
bought a can of Gumout Performance Additive last
night but I'm going to Auto Zone before using the
additive to get a code reading. Any input?

That is exactly what you need to do. Write down what the codes are and post them back here for further assistance.

Would have gotten back to you sooner if you would have posted here. So,.....P0176 - Fuel Composition Sensor Circuit Malfunction... Possible causes; Flexible Fuel (FF) sensor to Vehicle Power (VPWR) circuit harness open or shorted, FF to VPWR circuit poor electrical connection, Open in FF sensor signal circuit, Short to ground in FF sensor signal circuit, Fuel contamination, Possible symptoms Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light) P0176 Description.... Fuel Composition Sensors are used to determine the amount of ethanol alcohol in the gasoline. Normally, a gasoline engine should not have more than 10% ethanol alcohol in the fuel for proper operation. Some vehicles have a Flexible Fuel (FF) system on them that allow them to run on up to 85% ethanol alcohol in the fuel. The fuel composition sensor sends a frequency modulated signal to the engine controller which is proportional to the alcohol content of the fuel. The injector pulse width and the ignition timing are modified for the increased alcohol content. It takes almost twice the amount of alcohol compared to gasoline to produce the same power.
