A/C fan does not blow air, Controls work OK

Asked by ElTrompas Jan 28, 2016 at 12:06 PM about the 2007 Nissan Altima 2.5 S

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I noticed that my A/C fan works when it wants to.  I hit the AUTO button and
the indicators behave normally. For instance, I turn it to 70 and it adjusts
normally, you can hear the compressor work, but the air does not blow into
the cabin.  At random times, the air would kick in and work as normal.
However, other times it may take a while to start blowing air.  It doesn't
matter what temperature I adjust it to, it does the same thing.  Even if I do
not hit the AUTO button and just turn the fan knob up so that I get regular
outside air to blow into the cabin, it won't start when I demand it.  Maybe
after 5 or even 20 minutes I'll get the fan to start.  Do you have any idea
what it could be?  Any help would be enormously appreciated! :-)

Maybe the blower motor is faulty? When the problem is ongoing, check voltage and ground at the blower motor wiring connector, if good and no blower action, suspect the blower motor. I have seen faulty blower motors where the motor brushes would be badly worn, You hit a bump and the blower motor suddenly starts working. You might be able to tap on the blower motor, see if it will take off running.

I have a 2007 Nissan Sentra and the blower would not work sometimes until my car would hit a bump or I would have to hit the outside cover of the blower to make it work. I also have a 2012 Nissan Sentra and it has started to have the same problem.
