Why is my a/c blower fan alternating speeds?

My a/c blower motor is changing speeds by itself. When it is running on high, it will drop in and out intermittently, almost as if a wire were loose or something. It doesn't stop completely, but will slow down considerably, then kick back up again. And when it is running slowly, pushing a window button or radio button will speed it back up again. Suggestions?
