2004-2008: SL; 6 Cyl 3.5L; "VQ35DE" -- timing chain.

Most of the six cylinder models have had chains for many years. Our '98 Maxima has a chain. This isn't to say they can't break and, if they do and it's an older car, junk it unless you can't live without the old girl. You have to pull the engine to change it - big job. Luckily you rarely ever hear of one breaking; I've only ever heard of two in older Nissan sixes.
