my oil pressure stays at 40 but when pressing on the gas it floats up and down on the gage. Is this bad??? just put a tune up in it not a month ago.

No its not a bad thing, i have a 2006 gmc sierra and it does the same thing. For some reason gmc and chevy trucks oil pressure gauge moves will accelerating. The pressure itself doesnt change just the gauge.

actually all my gauges do this but the oil has been worring me the most. thanks for the info Brett it is really appreciated
This is supposed to happen; higher RPM=higher oil volume oil pump moves. Mine idles around 45 and will peg the gauge at 80 psi when it gets cold up here. done it for 200,000 miles. i'd be more concerned if nothing happened when accelerating.
The oil gauge on my 2000 chevy silverado keeps going higher then 45 when i idle up and when i slow down it goes but to normal
It's normal for the gage to read higher when you give it gas. The oil pump is spinning faster creating more oil pressure. It should go back down to normal at a idle. Nothing really to be worried about. Thanks, Dusten
I was wandering the same thing thanks guys

What if it goes way high when accelerating but goes way low when you are slowing down?
My gage is at about 40 psi when at an idle but as soon as I push the gas, it shoots up instantly past 80. Could that be a bad gage or the sending unit?
Thank you Brett, I just got a 04 Silverado that does this I was super worried I paid 6k for it from Florida I was like man I hope this isn't gonna turn into a huge issue.. always when shifting in first - like taking off gears it goes up to like 65 70 then when I get to like constant it stays in the middle, I was super worried though.
I have 2002 s10 chev truck my oil gage stay around 40 but when I slow down it drops when I speed up it goes back up to 38 40 it that normal
