Suzuki Xl-7 starting problems

Asked by Todd Nov 15, 2013 at 01:42 PM about the 2005 Suzuki XL-7 EX 4WD

Question type: General

Suzuki XL-7 2005 model, for past year at times I have issues with the vehicle starting,
was like choking on starting, turned over but engine chokes and takes several attempts
to start Check engine light on. Took it to three mechanics, put it on electronic testing,
engine test. code came back as engine fine, code came back as mis-fire on one of the
cylinders. Replaced the spark plugs.  Car starting fine again, working better on the
highway.  Check engine light still on, codes coming back fine but light keeps coming
on.  Starting problems have returned but now even worse. Had the car thoroughly
inspected, unable to determine cause of issue. Its acting as if its not getting gas - last
night it sat choking trying to start it for over 10 minutes. Check engine light flashing
repeatedly-  Ran a code test, still all codes showing normal  What could be going on?
I am guessing these mechanics just don't know their Suzukis.

bad fuel pumps will not set codes. Somewhere in fuel lines there should be a place to hook up gage. ck manual for press on your model against what you get from pressure gage. Anything lower then 10 psi from recommended pres and car will not start

Thanks. We ran code tests again after clearing codes. It still giving a code I had 6 months ago of mis fire in chamber one. We replaced all spark plugs, cables were fine. Issue still there with SUV not turning over at times. Check engine light came back, codes again say misfire in chamber one. What else could it be?

When you say not turning over are you meaning actually not turning engine over or do u mean spinning engine but not firing?. Next suggestion is ign module if engine cranks. If not turning engine over then bad ground either batt cable or computer grrnd wire

This was a problem with my 2007. We think we have it fixed. It turned out there was moisture under the fuse box, and corrosion on many wires coming from it. It took them 6 months, four visits, one include a battery change, and two times sending a tow truck...finally theyhave it fixed they believe. Still waiting on it and have a loaner.
