How do you remove the hub from rear wheel to replace bearings on a 2002 Suzuki XL7

I was told bearings needed replaced in rear left wheel.  The repair shop could not get the
hub off to replace the bearings.  They beat the studs off.  Then they said they would need
to push the axle over to push out the hub which would  damage it and the rear end. Does
anyone know how to do that?  Please help
