Is IMS failure a big problem in a 2007

If it fails it can ruin the engine. The only way to replace it on your year car is to tear down the engine.

The non-serviceable IMS bearing used on model year 2006 and later M96 and M97 engines should have the grease seal removed as part of preventative maintenance.
