Ac does not work consistently

About a week ago my ac stopped working.  It blew warm air and it wasn't dripping the condensation water.  I tried it a couple of times a day for several days and it never worked.so I stopped trying for several days.  I tried it again Friday evening and it worked fine.  It worked most of Saturday but stopped working again Saturday evening.  Is anyone familiar with this sort of problem?
