Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I changed the spark plugs and wires on my 1992 Chevy S-10 and now it runs
really bad.  Any ideas what could be causing this?

Also make certain each plug wires "snaps" or "clicks" into place completely. If they are not on completely the engine will run rough because some of the cylinders are not firing. As the gentleman said above, it is critically import that the correct wire go to the correct plug. Otherwise the engine will fire out of sequence. On the distributor cap should be a set of embossed numbers, each number representing each of the engine cylinders. 1 is cyl. #1, 2 is cyl. #2 and so on. (IN MOST CASES, NOT ALL)The sequencing usually runs left to right, 1, 2, 3, 4.... The shortest plug wire usually runs from #1 on the distributor cap to the 1st spark plug in the engine block closest to the cap. The second longest wire runs from the #2 on the distributor cap to the second spark plug closest to the cap in the engine block. The third longest plug wire runs from the #3 on the distributor cap to the third closest spark plug in the block. Follow this train of logic until all of the wires have been replaced. if you ever do this again, its best to replace one wire at a time so the sequence doesn't get out of order. Replacing the distributor cap and rotor is very easy. Take the old distributor cap off. Pull the distributor rotor straight up and off the center of the distributor. Then replace the old rotor with a the new rotor, and place the new distributor cap back on. Done. These parts are usually pretty cheap too. Good luck!!

I did replace one wire at a time so that the sequence did not get out of order. I guess I'll try replacing the distributor and see if that works. Thank you.
