why does a timing belt get changed later in california

Asked by majordave Sep 30, 2013 at 09:19 AM about the 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse manual says you need to change the timing belt at 60,000 (seems very early to me) - but at 105,000 if I live in California.  Sounds like I need to move there after I hit 60,000! :)  Why is this written such??

There is a thread at: http://mitsubishiforum.com/forum/mitsubishi-montero-montero-sport-14/timing-belt-change-dealer-vs-independent-shop-24926/ ...yeah I know it says Montero but they discuss what you are asking, it's the same engine as the Eclipse
