We have a 2006 pt cruiser turbo which began overheating last week so immediately quit driving hd checked & was told it was head gaskets ($1,525). I had doubts and had friend mechanic take a look who agreed. He replaced thermostat, and there had been water leaking from front of engine area so put in K Seal at same time yesterday. We let car idle with the heater on and it never ran above 1/2 up gauge, then drove it around to store, etc. for an hour or so ... no issues. Today , we checked the overflow unit for leaks .. There were none, however cap to it was missing, so covered with something else that is not an exact fit and taped and added coolant. Upon returning this afternoon from running errands saw that it was leaking again from the front. I was reading that based upon that it appeared to be water pump, timing belt, ... Please advise with your thoughts ... Last thing I want to do is replace this and find it's something else. Is there a test to ensure it's the water pump? 2 Answers

Apparently my husband hit a rock when driving our car up the mountain to put it in the garage to get it out of the hail. Car seemed fine, drove it into town and back no problems. On the 4th we drove up the canyon to meet our son. On the way the car overheated badly. On arrival there was a deluge of water and antifreeze coming by the hose. After that the gauge said we did not need to add water but you would have to be an idiot to believe that. We added cool water from the river slowly, let the car cool and then started home. Long story short we got home, the radiator problem seems to be handled, but if we turn the wheel to take a curve or turn around the car dies. Power steering problem perhaps? Or???? 2 Answers
