P0700 chrysler pt cruiser

Asked by GuruSXD91 May 22, 2019 at 08:32 PM about the 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Wagon FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2006 pt cruiser with the check engine code showing up as P0700.
From what I can gather online it's a problem with the transmission, but we
havent had any problems with it switching gears (that we know of). When it
first came on the engine was revving high, and going through a lot of oil. We
would clean the throttle body, it would be good for a few minutes then it would
be on again. Later it got to the point where the engine light was flashing and it
sounded like the engine was misfiring. I'm at a lost of what to do for this car.

This could be a transmission issue but there are other causes. I would recommend a good transmission shop have a look at it. https://www.fixdapp.com/blog/p0700

I do think your engine has other issues. The oil consumption and the oily throttle body point to bad blow by from a worn engine.

The engine has approx 120,000 miles on it, and my moms boyfriend who once was a certified Chrysler mechanic seems to hear the timing belt jumping the timing. As of right now it tries to start, but isn’t able to. The last time we had it running it couldn’t go 5 ft with out stalling.
