06 PT Cruiser wont start or turn over
Asked by Destiny Jun 06, 2017 at 01:13 AM about the 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Touring Wagon FWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Okay, so I have an 06 PT Cruiser. It started giving problems a few months
ago, it wouldnt turn over or crank so we got the codes read and it came up
as the Transmission Control Module. We changed that and the Ignition
Switch. It still will not turn over or crank. already has a new battery, but we
changed the terminals anyway. still wont turn over or crank but the dash
lights and everything will come on so there is power but no starting. HELP.
because we have tried absolutely everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

could be the starter or starter relay if you have one , the code will tell you what circuit the problem is in not what to replace , if batt. is good and charged and connections are tight you can test solenoid wire to see if it gets power when you hit the key , Usually you have to nearly remove the starter for that so you might as well replace it .
we dont have a diagnostic reader we got oriley to come to our house with it. the code at first as i stated was the Transmission Control Module. solenoid does not get power when you hit the key we did not have to remove the starter for that. like i said we have tried everything. we were told that it is probably a connection problem but we dont know where.
Is security light on. It will be a red dot on dash. If not. Check main junction block that power is being supplied to it. Check all fuses and relays. Check asd relay. Check grounds. The TIPM are none to have problems. There is a fuse panel inside vehicle as well. Check everything there as well.
well we gutted the car already because we are trying to figure out everything. i mean we can hook the battery up to see it though. this one does not have the fuse panel inside. its only under the hood.
Ok please let me know what you find. I see a lot of cruisers with stupid problems. It's usually computer and asd relay that fails. Then the newer than 04. Tipm is added and that's another problem with what they already have.
Lonetech I have a 2006 pt cruiser it has been running just fine I stoped at a friend house n was in there may be 20 min came bacj out n my car won't start all the dash lights come on n there is a lil red light I have never seen before comes on it has power to it but wont start or crank over pls help me

guru583FQ- that red light is that signal your security lockout has been activated. (clearly you're no longer in that state). But for someone else with this problem, try unlock/ lock several times with the key fob.
I’m not sure where I read this but it totally worked: lock and unlock the car several times with the key fob. Maybe 5 or 6 times. Then try to start it. Mine (05’) had power but nothing happened when turning the key. Try the above before you spend time and money unnecessarily.

I am having the same problem ...the temporary solution I have applied is to open the engine trunk and close it....then open my booth and close then try starting the car and it works. But, I noticed when I parked the car in the SUN for too long and I tried starting then it wont start as well ...so I have had to push the car into an under carpark with overhead covering and after some few hours, I tried starting the car and it worked
check the wiring to your starter
DavidO2004 this is exactly what mine does. I don't have a carport now and by noon when sun directly beams on hood and temp 90 degrees with high humidity my car does not start til sun goes down. I also lift hood and slam and hatch I open with key and that will help it start. I had battery tested and load tested..it is fine. Sometimes I have to hook up my jump starter battery pack and it will start it..only does this in summer..it will go into limp mode if it doesn't start first time but starts second try..I turn off car. Turn key three times to on position not start. It takes it out of limp mode
What does he meen when after he opens and closes the engine hood and the rear hatch and slams them he then says and then the booth what the heck is he saying the proceedure is anyone want to please say it correctly so i can try it as my car is in securit lockout dont know why the key fobon the key never worked but the key itself always has so i dont know why its security light just came on and now im screwd without a working key fob i need to exit the lockout mode how do you do this to atleast try the original key that should and has always worked this system is stupid and no real clear info on how to clear the security light to retry and start the damn thingwhen i own it

I have this same issue, I'm thinking it is a direct issue with the fuse block IPM ... I've replaced everything, reprogrammed the key and still nothing. Has anyone figured this out yet?

It’s possibly an actuator. Find an Utube video to fix it. It’s a part between the key and the ignition switch.

I have a 2008 PT Cruiser. I have changed the starter and the ignition switch. I also changed the battery as my cranking amps were low. I also changed the starter relay. I still cannot get it to run. I took a light test and removed the relay. I checked pin 87, which goes to the starter and that is good. I had my son turn the key so I could test pin 86 which goes to the ignition switch and that is good. When I go to pin 30, which comes from the TIPM, I have no power. My next thing is to test pin 30 to the 10 amp fuse in the TIPM to see if this checks out. I read somewhere that it could be the ignition interlock cable, but I'm going to test the connections first before I going buying another part.
The starter relay is on top of the ecu there are two relays the starter relay is the one on the left

it is most likely the ECU. That controls everything. They have a notoriously bad reputation for going bad. The ECU/PCU is the computer that controls almost everything including battery charging, transmission shifting, and almost everything else including starting.

On an 04' check the trigger wire @ the starter. Mine was a slide on conn & not a screw type = prone to corrosion. I took a stiff rod & pushed on the terminal, conn was loose used the rod to push the conn all the way on, shot it with PB Blaster & va-room! Hope this helps. Good luck to you all.
