2006 Chrysler convertible with a broken check strap on driver door.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
How hard was this to change? Any special tools required? It looks like the trim on door must come off. The OEM part is about $35.00 but the dealer wants $250.00 to change it. Thanks

I would look for a Sebring forum to see if they have DIY instructions.
The tools you need, to remove a door panel , are common at any parts store. Ask at the desk for information on how to use them. the job is relitively quit simple. A manual, would help guide you along, but don't let the job scare you, it is really just a snap.
1. Roll door glass down. 2. Disengage two clips attaching speaker grille to door trim panel. They are at the front of the grille, one near the top, and the other one at the bottom. 3. Remove three large washer-headed screws surrounding the speaker. 4. Remove access cover at front of door trim panel. Remove by prying at its rear edge. 5. Remove red courtesy reflector from lower tail or door. Disengage by prying carefully at screwdriver notch at bottom of reflector, (locking tabs are fragile). 6. Remove flag trim panel from door by prying off at two attachment clips points with forked tool. 7. Remove seven screws attaching door trim panel to door. a. One screw is located at lower rear screw pocket. b. Three screws located along the bottom of door. c. One screw located inside handle opening. d. One screw located at the upper front. e. One screw in the pull cup. 8. Disengage two hidden clips attaching at the rear of the trim panel, by prying off at two attachment clip points with forked tool. 9. Lift trim panel upward and away from door, disengage trim panel from upper retainer channel. 10. Disengage clip attaching latch linkage to back door handle. 11. Disconnect electrical connectors as necessary, including lower foot light, If equipped. (Limited) 12. Remove door trim panel from door. A forked blade, tool to release the panel clips is readily available at auto parts stores and retailers like sears and harbor freight tools. Proceed carefully and with caution to prevent damage. Have a container for small parts and a soft blanket in place to protect removed panel. Allow 30-45 minutes for removal.
Sparky222 .... Thanks so much for all of the detail .... It sounds complicated but your step by step should help ..... I guess that once the door panel is off that the bolts that hold on the check strap are easily accessible ?
