Just had my output speed sensor replaced by AAMCO... noticed in a similar question that the input should be changed at the same time, is this true?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Also... there was another module code that came up.  Shift sensor or something.  The transmission is still doing the same thing  it was.  They replaced the pan gasket, filter and fluid.  I'm down $427.00 already and am feeling a little less trusting of this AAMCO shop now.  The car shifts into low car hard when I stop and then it feels like it idles fast then slow, but the tachometer isn't moving, the speedometer is jumping to 10 MPH and then to 0 MPH while I'm at a stop!

Take it back and tell them it's not fixed and you want your money back for a wrong diagnosis.

Yeah... thought of that. But when I picked it up they said, we didn't take the transmission apart and inspect everything, only checked the code and took the pan off to check for signs of mechanical failure so if you need a rebuild w/in the next 60 days you'll get 75% of this bill off of that. It sounds shady to me.

Very shady. Tell them you want your money back or you'll see them in court.

Tell them you want the codes they pulled.Give us the codes here and we will see what's going on.

Autozone pulled codes for me before I took it in: 700, 720, and 731.

More often then not, the cause of this code is that there is a transmission problem of some kind. The TCM detected the problem and set a code. P0700 means that a fault code is stored in the TCM. However this doesn't rule out the possibility of a failed PCM or TCM (unlikely). DTC - P0720 (OUTPUT SHAFT SPEED SENSOR SYSTEM) Code No. P0720 Output shaft speed sensor system If the output from the output shaft speed sensor is continuously 50% lower than the vehicle speed for 1 second or more while driving in 3rd or 4th gear at a speed of 30 km/h or more, it is judged to be an open circuit or short-circuit in the output shaft speed sensor and diagnostic trouble code No. P0720 is output. If diagnostic trouble code No. P0720 is output four times, the transmission is locked into 3rd gear or 2rid gear as a fail-safe measure. Probable cause Malfunction of the output shaft speed sensor Malfunction of the transfer drive gear or driven gear Malfunction of connector Malfunction of the TCM - P0731 input shaft speed sensor malfunction

It is recommended to replace the input shaft speed sensor and the output shaft speed sensor at the same time and this should take care of your problem. You can buy them both at the dealer.
