my car will not stay started

You said two things there nooknook...your car will not "stay" started then in the text of your question you say it will not start....get back to us please....meantime it could be a multitude of things that will cause a car to not start. Fuel getting to injectors? Try the old screwdriver in the spark plug wire trick....put phillips screwdriver in plug wire, ground the screwdriver on tip of spark plug, have somebody crank it over and see if you have a nice blue spark. Then come on back
I don't know a lot about cars, but am certainly learning some weird tricks since I got my 06 Sebring. Will tell you two that have worked for me when I experienced this prob. Hope it helps. First, the easiest, most obvious..are you using the original key? You can get an extra key made that will open the door/trunk, will even start the car for a sec, but it will soon die. Guess you need that little chip that comes in the original key to keep it running. If that's not your prob, have you added coolant recently? If you did, and didn't run the car for 20-30 min, it could have developed an air bubble, apparently Chryslers are famous for this. To fix, take cap off radiator, start car & let run til coolant bubbles out. Then refill, recap & drive around for a while. Hope one of these help, the Sebring can be Frustrating!

These cars have a chip key and whats called a skim reader if the key gets exposed to a demagnitizer (ie anti theft mats at walmart) the security in the does not recognize the key it will lock a out the starter, usually prior to this the car will develope a runability issue stalling, wont start, after 30min or so car will start and run fine a day or two. Ecm and or skim reader need replaced along w key. Contact your dealer as it can not be doe outside the dealer
In my 2004 Chrysler Sebring the key broke off in the ignition. Took out the ignition to start with a screwdriver. Starts for a few minutes then dies
My it starts be up but it shuts off when I put in drive

I can not believe there are so many people who give advice, if you don't know don't waste our time with your incorrect guess, most of all have us wasting money on parts like crank sensors they don't usually go bad, the wiring might, as for the Chrysler Sebring stalling it's a defective design that Chrysler doesn't care about, the engine control module was poorly designed and it shorts out causing other sensors to fail, you can replace all the cam, crank and fuel pumps in the world and still have the same issue. The computer won't recognize a sensor that is dropped because the control module fails , if it doesn't know it's there it can't use it for a reference. If your crank sensor goes bad and you crank on the engine until the battery goes dead when you replace the battery the computer relearns by checking the sensors available, it is a relearn procedure they all do. If a defective sensor sends no signal the computer has no idea it's there. Do not keep cranking on the motor until it's dead then expect your mechanic to fix it. Sorry I get sidetracked , back to the stallung issue, if the engine control module (fuse and relay center under the hood) is defective it will cause certain sensors to appear to be defective leaving the computer confused and it can not decide what to do , it basically shuts off the fuel the car dies then after a minute it trys the limp home mode and will restart. Problem is it will continue doing this until it relearns the sensors, that will not happen as long as the fuse and relay panels (engine control module) is messing up. It's on the drivers fender , next time the car dies and won't start try banging on it , it's going to restart , it maybe the wiring harness or the module, but Chrysler knows this is a defective item and doesn't care if their defective design is dangerous and life threatening. It is a safety issue that the DMV should be aware of, report it to them and if enough people complain they will be forced to react. This is a very dangerous defect. It's not a normal ware item like brakes it is a poorly designed item that is costing some people their lives, being unaware of stalling possiblity and pulling into traffic , results in a wreck that is blamed on the driver and not the manufacturer. Look up the number of wrecks that have a Sebring involved at fault , get a lawyer and file suit. This is not limited to just a few vehicles but more like 40% of the total manufactured,

The alternator is also controlled by the fuse and relay center(engine control panel)the fuel pump, crank and cam sensor fact almost every item the computer uses for a reference goes through this item, Chrysler knows this item was designed poorly, I do not think it is even available through them anymore, someone is making the module but I'm not sure who the company is but it is available on line, if you 99 up Sebring is stalling report it to the DMV

Attention wanna be mechanics useing old school ideas that are just that old and no longer apply, if your not sure don't guess , get your facts right before misleading people , parts changing went out when the computer was installed, almost every item in your vehicle is now controlled by a computer, tcm transmission controller, bcm body controller (this includes your radio,ac heater seats ECT ecm engine control module, and then you have the main controller, the pcm the primary control module or main computer that the other report to. If a sensor goes bad and the battery is drained the controller in charge of that sensor when in the relearn process is active has no idea it is there ,do not keep cranking on the vehicle until the battery is dead. If it doesn't start after five attempts call a mechanic. I'm trying to be nice but it's hard, if you are not up to date on the way vehicles work please keep you guesses to your self , I'm not saying your ideas are not some of the reasons but again if the ecm is not telling the pcm the battery is low the pcm will not tell the ecm to ingage the charging system, the issue with the Sebring is the defective fuse and relay distribution center also known as the ECM

If you have a cut key that opens doors and trunk and it isn't the original key with the grey plastic coating on the head of key, the cut key will start the car but it will cut off after about 15 seconds , if you broke the original key with grey plastic coating on it it has a chip inside it, take the broken original key and the cut key and drill a self tapping screw through the original key at metal below the grey plastic head and into the head of the cut key, then break the self tapping part of the screw off of the two keys screwed together then use heat shrink or tape to make the keys comfortable to hold and turn while inserted into the ignition, the two keys screwed together will start the car and it will continue to run as the original key did. You can buy another key from dealership or buy one and have it programed , but for a cheap and easy fix this will work!
