2006 Chrysler Town and country

Asked by BoeBradford83 Aug 10, 2018 at 07:53 PM about the 2006 Chrysler Town & Country FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So occasionally my Chrysler T&C has an irregular cranking
pattern. It will seem to sputter as if it is not getting enough
gas to fire. Other times it's cranks seemingly quicker than
it's NORMAL cranking pattern and the engine revs for just a
moment immediately after as if I had my foot on the pedal.
And after I drive it I can smell a strong odor of gas outside
the vehicle. In the past 3 months I have changed the
battery, new coil packs, plugs, wires and nothing has
improved this situation. I also just purchased a new OEM
starter but as I continue to listen to the irregular cranking
pattern, I'm almost certain that it isn't the starter. Please
advise!

I would inspect the fuel rail for leaks. Sometimes the o-rings for the injectors have issues. Also the evap purge valve for the emissions system may need to be cleaned or replaced and the rubber lines can deteriorate then leak causing odd venting problems. Give all rubber lines a once over for cracks and see if there is any fuel that leaks out the fuel pressure regulator. There is obviously a leak either vacuum or fuel relative or both. Good Luck!
