Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I hit a patch of raised asphalt and my ac immediately started blowing hot air. The control knobs were also knocked off. My mechanic replaced the #23 fuse to restart the compressor and the ac came back on for a while but now the ac light blinks on and off and there is a grating noise under the hood. what could be the cause and fix for this and is it better to go to the dealer?

Your car is so far out of warranty, taking it to a dealer will only cost you more money. Take it to a certified mechanic and tell them to use OEM parts. Describe the symptoms to the mechanic and let them diagnose the problem. To be honest, any whack hard enough to blow or dislodge a fuse was bound to cause other issues or mechanical damage. I'd have everything checked from suspension, steering, serpentine belt, alignment, tires, etc.

You were right about the serpentine belt and further inspection showed that the water pump was loose so these will be addressed asap. The GM service person told me that I probably have a problem with the wiring because the ac blows cold until the fuse blows and the freon is not leaking out. Thanks for the tip on buying OEM parts; never heard of them and was very confused as to what to buy. I paid $850.00 for this car (91,201 miles) 2 months ago and it drives like a dream, real smooth and quiet until I hit that patch of raised asphalt. Thanks again for doing what you do; greatly appreciated!
