It's a critical part that assists in turning the wheels when you turn the steering wheel.

Your engine may have stalled, if that happens you lose power brakes, power steering, and of course you'll slow down.

Is the front wheel/tire leaning? Did the engine stay running? Is your power steering pump making noises?

If it did not stall, must be related to front suspension, bushings, tie-rods, ball joints or CV Joints, It will likely need to be taken to shop to diagnose for sure.
