98 chevy k2500 5.7 vortec not getting fuel

Asked by GuruJ5RW May 24, 2017 at 02:43 AM about the 1998 Chevrolet C/K 2500 Silverado Extended Cab HD 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1998 chevy k2500 that is having problems with the fuel system
working intermittently. Truck will often start and I can drive it around with no
problem then all of the sudden will not start. Will check the fuel check valve
and at best fuel is dribbling out but often doesnt come out at all.
What I have done:
-Replaced the fuel pump (twice most recently 6 months ago)
-Replaces the filter a few days ago
-Replaced the ignition lock cylinder a few years ago
-Replaced the ignition control module four months ago
Running out of things to replace. Any suggestions?

Do a fuel pressure bleed down test. Hook up a fuel pressure gauge to the Schrader Valve up on the intake manifold, turn the key to the on position to build up the fuel pressure, it should be 56 to 63 lbs. Then turn the key off and watch the fuel pressure gauge. Fuel pressure should not drop more than 5 lbs. in 3 minutes. If it does, then the spider injection is leaking and would need to be changed out. You would replace the spider injection as an assembly as it had ben upgraded from the original one that is on your engine.

Check the online filter, they tend to get dirty, suck up the dirt, then cut out, after you stop running it, they drop the dirt and start again, working for a long as it takes to pick the dirt back up
