My 1994 2500 Cheyenne is really slow to accelerate. What would cause that?

Asked by Drake83 Sep 28, 2013 at 12:40 PM about the 1994 Chevrolet C/K 2500 Cheyenne Extended Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Truck has been sitting for about 5 years. Still gotta change the plugs, wires, and the fuel filter. I am just wondering if it may be a compression problem.

....okay, suspect the fuel pressure regulator has a cracked hose, torn diaphragm, gummed so that it just ain't regulatin' no more~ consider buying a replacement if found leakin' vacuum or not functioning~

the damned camera is "zebra striping again"...but if you click on the image...goes away~ 1994 I suspect still have a distributor...check the vacuum advance may not be operating.....again replace butyl rubber lines with silicone ones for vacuum lines that will not leak~

How does it rev up when under no load. Are you sure it's the motor. I would assume the brake rotors/drum are pretty rusty after 5 years. operator_13 the '94 has electronic advance. The fuel reg is built into the throttle body, no hoses. If it is the fuel pressure reg it can be dis-assembled easily. Do the filter and then check fuel pressure. Check the vacuum at the MAP sensor to the left of the TB.

if this truck has 700r4 it could sticky throttle valve or tv cable out of adjustment

Thomas this is a 3/4 ton, 700r4 is a 1/2 ton or smaller tranny. That will affect shifting. Either it will shift into 2nd to soon and bog (I'm sure he would have mentioned the early shift) or shift late and over rev. Besides this unit should have the 4L80-E being a '94 and is electronicly controlled.
