2000 year 350 vortec problems

Asked by Greg Jan 27, 2016 at 01:27 AM about the 2000 Chevrolet C/K 3500 LB 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2000
K3500 Chevy with a 350 in it and a auto
tranny.  Long story short it was running fine
then lost power could only get to 40 mph
oil pressure started to drop motor temp
was rising and it started knocking or
pinging and died out after 1/2 mile . I then
opened hood and the exhaust manifolds
were glowing red.  Has any one ever seen
that before temp was all the way almost to
red. Could it be bad crank senser or
plugged catalitic converters
Thanks

Yes could be, any knocks or ticks? With plugged cats the engine can't breath. Never the less make sure and change out the oil & filter once the cats are replaced.

Sorry if you got that, wrong post. So yes, the check engine light would be on and yes if those manifold where a glowing, I would change it out. Hopefully you did not drive it too much like this, Heat is a killer.

Replace them, usually the front one or one's, or if you are to take it somewhere, I would cut them off. Careful of the 02 sensors. Once fixed the codes would have to be reset.
