Chevy Cheyenne 3500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1998 Chevy Cheyenne. I recently started
having issues with my battery/alternator? I’m not
sure. But I left my headlights on one day and it
drained the battery. Then I had to jump it to start it
and it started fine. But then on my way home I got a
red light and the battery gauge started to die. And
then the truck just died. I tried to jump it again and
once again it would start but as soon as I took the
cables off it would die again. Would like to know
what it could be.

Battery, Alternator or bad connection...First check the battery terminal connections, they need to be clean and tight...If you can move the battery cables by hand then remove and clean and tighten...Check the battery voltage with a multimeter with engine running...it should be around 13.5 14.5 volts...if not probably bad alternator, belt slipping or bad connection
